WASH & Construction in Southern Somalia: Building Community Resilience

For communities across Bay, Bakool and Lower Shebelle, resilient infrastructure is the difference between fragile access and reliable services. HALMAL Logistics, Construction & Trading Company (HLCTC) delivers practical, durable WASH and small civil works—latrine construction for IDP settlements, borehole and kiosk rehabilitation, and minor renovations—on time, on budget, and in line with humanitarian standards.

The HALMAL approach: quality, safety, and speed

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut laboContext-driven design: We tailor latrine footprints, ventilation, and slab specs to settlement layouts and soil conditions.

Tight QA/QC: Site checklists, material verification, and daily supervisor reports minimize rework.

Safety first (HSE): Clear site demarcation, PPE, tool box talks, and incident-reporting protocols protect workers and communities.

On-time delivery: Phased workplans and local supply chains keep projects moving, even during rains or access constraints.

What we build (and why it matters)

Minor civil works & visibility: Fabrication/installation, A3 signage and wayfinding support accountability and use.

Latrines for IDP settlements: Safe, gender-sensitive sanitation reduces disease risk and improves dignity.

Borehole & water kiosk rehab: Restored yield and chlorination points cut collection times and expand safe access.

We engaged HALMAL for a multi-location WASH program covering IDP settlements and host communities in Baidoa, Hudur, and Wajid. From inception to handover, their team treated the work with the urgency and rigor it deserved. They began with careful site assessments—soil tests, drainage checks, and community mapping—then adapted latrine footprints, slab specs, and ventilation to each settlement’s realities. The result was sanitation that was not only safer and more private, but genuinely usable for women, men, and children, including separate blocks and simple lighting options where feasible.

Implementation in hard-to-reach districts

Operating in Baidoa, Hudur, Wajid, Burhakaba, Dinsor, and Qansaxdheere, our teams plan around clearance windows, road conditions, and local leadership calendars. Early engagement with elders and district authorities smooths mobilization and ensures community ownership from day one.
